About Chad Troftgruben

Animator, educator, and author helping people create, and understand, animation.

I’m Chad Troftgruben. For more than 15 years, I’ve created educational content that helps people learn creative software and turn their ideas into finished projects. My work brings together character animation, eLearning development, technical writing, and personalized Moho training.

I’ve developed training content for companies including Lost Marble, Smith Micro, Pluralsight, Train Simple, and Virtual Training Company, and authored two books published by Packt. My projects range from focused video tutorials and interactive learning modules to comprehensive courses that guide learners through an entire animated production.

My approach to teaching grows out of making things myself. Building a character rig, staging a scene, or troubleshooting an animation gives me practical experience to bring into each lesson. I aim to explain both how a technique works and when it becomes useful, breaking complex processes into steps people can apply to their own projects.

I also work with Lost Marble, the company behind Moho, as Education and Industry Partnerships Manager, supporting connections with educators, studios, and the wider animation community.

Alongside my educational work, I create original animated productions filled with unusual characters, humor, and ambitious stories. Those personal projects keep me experimenting, and give me plenty of new problems to solve and techniques to share.
